Khatu ShyamMantras
‖ Seven mantras — seed, salutation, meditation, surrender ‖
Seven principal mantras of Khatu Shyam, each for a different occasion — daily japa, meditation, times of crisis, and surrender. A mantra is a short, repeated phrase that gathers the mind and becomes a channel for the deity's grace.
A mantra is a short phrase meant to be repeated rather than read once — the repetition is the practice. The Khatu Shyam mantras are deliberately simple: tradition holds that in the Kali Yuga plain name-chanting carries a devotee as far as elaborate ritual, and Baba, the Hare ka Sahara, asks for surrender rather than scholarship.
The seven mantras serve different purposes: the seed (beej) mantra as the foundation of practice, the salutation (pranam) mantra for daily reverence, the meditation (dhyana) mantra for focus, the crisis-relief mantra in times of difficulty, and the surrender mantra to seal the practice. The devotee chooses the mantra that suits the moment.
On the Hindi page each mantra appears with its Devanagari text, a Roman transliteration, an English meaning and the recommended occasion — so the right mantra can be chanted with the right feeling.
How to Chant (Japa Vidhi)
- 1
Bathe and wear clean clothes; sit on an aasan facing east or north.
- 2
Use a tulsi or rudraksha mala; many Shyam devotees also keep a marigold-wood mala.
- 3
Steady the mind and choose the mantra suited to your purpose — each carries a suggested count.
- 4
Always close with one recitation of the surrender mantra — it seals the intent of the whole practice.
